Bin Drai and Abu Dhabi are the finalists of the Julius Baer Gold Cup 2018



03/06/2018: DUBAI, UAE: Bin Drai and Abu Dhabi will play the Julius Baer Gold Cup Final after winning their respective semifinal matches today against Zedan and Mahra. In a double action day at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club, Abu Dhabi defeated Mahra by 9 goals to 7 and Bin Drai won his match against Zedan by 6 goals to 5. They where two very tough semifinal matches with five chukkers of pure energy and enthusiasm. Teams fought hard to achieve the desired ticket to the final of the Julius Baer Gold Cup, the most important match of the Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series 2018.
 
Abu Dhabi and Bin Drai had to fight really hard to defeat Mahra and Zedan. Patron Faris Al Yabhouni´s team after a great start (with a 5-1 lead in the second chukker) saw how Mahra closed the gap and put pressure on them till the very end.
Finally in the last chukker they achieved to handle the advantage to close a 9-7 victory.
 
Bin Drai had a similar situation to handle after a comeback in half time and then playing two even chukkers. A penalty from the spot, scored by Raúl Laplacette, decided the game in favor of Bin Drai by a close 6 goals to 5.

Habtoor Polo and Desert Palm will play the Bentley Cup Final



03/05/2018: DUBAI, UAE: Habtoor Polo and Desert Palm will play the Bentley Cup Subsidiary Final of the Julius Baer Gold Cup 2018 after winning today their respective matches against UAE Polo and Wolves. In a double action day at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club, Desert Palm defeated Wolves by 11 goals to 7 and Habtoor won his match against UAE Polo by 8 goals to 7. With this results both teams will play the Bentley Cup Final on Friday 9th March before the Julius Baer Gold Cup Final, the most important trophy of the Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series 2018.

Zedan and Mahra qualify to the semifinals of the Julius Baer Gold Cup 2018

 

03/02/2018: DUBAI, UAE: Zedan and Mahra will play the semifinals of the Julius Baer Gold Cup 2018 against Bin Drai and Abu Dhabi after winning today their respective quarterfinal matches in a thrilling double action day at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club. Zedan defeated Habtoor Polo by 12 goals to 9 and Mahra defeated Wolves in over time by 8 goals to 7. With these victories both teams qualified to semifinals where Zedan will play against Bin Drai and Mahra will face Abu Dhabi. Both matches will be held next Tuesday 6th March at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club.
 
On the other hand, Habtoor Polo and Wolves will play the Bentley Cup Subsidiary Semifinals next Monday 5th March. Habtoor will play against UAE Polo and Wolves will face Desert Palm.

Bin Drai wins and makes its way to the semifinals



02/27/2018: DUBAI, UAE: In another exciting double action day at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club, Bin Drai qualified to the semifinals of the Julius Baer Gold Cup 2018 while Habtoor and Mahra joined Zedan and Wolves in the quarterfinal round to be held next friday.
 
In today’s matches, Bin Drai defeated Mahra by 9 goals to 6 after a great team performance and Habtoor won his match against Desert Palm by 7 goals to 6 in a very contested game. Bin Drai Polo proved once more that is a very serious foursome and a tough opponent and with today’s victory against Mahra qualified directly to the semifinals where they join Abu Dhabi.

In the second match of the day, Habtoor Polo achieved a decisive victory against Desert Palm in a very close game. They played knowing that the winner will be in the quarterfinal round and both teams fought hard during the five chukkers for the big prize.
A great individual action by Francisco Elizalde, with one minute to go, gave Habtoor Polo the victory and the ticket to the next round of the Julius Baer Gold Cup 2018.

Abu Dhabi ends unbeaten in the qualification round of the Julius Baer Gold Cup 2018



02/26/2018: DUBAI, UAE: The qualification round for the Zone A of the Julius Baer Gold Cup 2018 ended this afternoon with victories by Abu Dhabi and Zedan. Abu Dhabi defeated UAE Polo Team by 7 goals to 6 and Zedan won his match against Wolves by 9 goals to 8. With this results Abu Dhabi ended unbeaten the qualification round and made it directly to the semifinals while Zedan (who achieved the second place in the zone) and Wolves will play the quarterfinal round with rivals to be determined in tomorrow Zone B last qualification games.

Mahra wins the “derby” and earns a spot in the Quarterfinals of the Julius Baer Gold Cup 2018



02/23/2018: DUBAI, UAE: Another exciting double action day at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club was held today for the Julius Baer Gold Cup 2018. Desert Palm defeated Bin Drai by 9 goals to 8 and Mahra beat Habtoor Polo in extra chukker 10 goals to 9. They were two very close matches, played with a lot of intensity and suspense till the very end. In the opening game Desert Palm played a great second half to turn over a match that was really complicated. Patron Rashid Albwardy´s team achieved to reduce a two goal gap and score a 3-0 in the fourth chukker and finished the great work in the last seven minutes for a 9 goals to 8 victory that keeps them with chances to qualify for the next round.

In the second match of the day, Mahra won the “derby” against Habtoor Polo in OT by 10 goals to 9 with Jerónimo del Carril scoring the winning goal for patron Rashid Al Habtoor´s team that gives them a secure place in the quarterfinals of the Gold Cup 2018.
 
It was a very tough match, even in actions and score. Chances were equal and anyone could have won, but it was that great action by Del Carril after winning the first OT throw-in that made the difference and gave Mahra the victory.

Abu Dhabi wins and is the first team to qualify for the Semifinals of the Julius Baer Gold Cup 2018

 

02/22/2018: DUBAI, UAE: Abu Dhabi Polo won his second match in a row and is the first team to qualify for the Julius Baer Gold Cup 2018 semifinals after an exciting double action day at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club. Abu Dhabi defeated Zedan by 14 goals to 6 and Wolves won his match against UAE Polo by 8 goals to 6 results that put Zedan and Wolves in quarterfinal games.
 
In the opening game Abu Dhabi had a superb team performance and achieved a deserved victory that was built from the very beginning of the match. Patron Faris Al Yabhouni´s team had a 4-0 lead in the first seven minutes and remained unstoppable till the very end.

A last second goal gives Bin Drai a great victory



02/18/2018: DUBAI, UAE: Bin Drai defeated Habtoor Polo by 9 goals to 8 in the third action day of the Julius Baer Gold Cup 2018 held today at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club. A last second goal scored by Matías Torres Zavaleta gave Bin Drai the triumph in an exciting match.

The game had two well-marked moments. In the first half Habtoor Polo had the control of the actions and the score achieving a three-goal difference in the first 14 minutes. However, in the second half Bin Drai made a great comeback and the game leaned to his side. They closed the gap at the end of the third chukker and took the lead in the fourth. With the match tied in 8 goals and 30 seconds to go, Matías Torres Zavaleta had the chance to score and did not fail.

Mahra strikes first in the Zone B of the Julius Baer Gold Cup 2018



02/17/2018: DUBAI, UAE: Mahra defeated Desert Palm by 10 goals to 9 in the second action day of the Julius Baer Gold Cup 2018 held today at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club.
 
Mahra takes the lead in the Zone B after winning a very tough match against Desert Palm. After two even chukkers (2-2/ 3-3), patron Rashid Al Habtoor´s team (replaced today by Khalid bin Drai) played a superb third chukka that gave them the lead by four goals. Mahra kept a 4-goal gap also on the fourth chukker and seemed to close the game without risks. However, Desert Palm foursome made a great comeback in the last period to tie the game in 9 goals with 1 minute to go, time when Benjamín Urquiza, after a great individual action, scored the winning goal for Mahra Polo Team.

Abu Dhabi and Zedan had a successful premiere at the Julius Baer Gold Cup 2018



02/16/2018: DUBAI, UAE: Abu Dhabi Polo Team and Zedan Polo had a successful debut at the Julius Baer Gold Cup 2018 that kick off today at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club. Abu Dhabi defeated Wolves by 8 goals to 5 and Zedan won his match against UAE Polo by 13 goals to 9 in an attractive double action day.
 
In the opening game of the Julius Baer Gold Cup, two full speed initial chukkers by Abu Dhabi, with a 3-0 and 5-1 in the score, made the difference for the rest of the game despite Wolves great effort to get back in the match.
