AM Polo Wins Against Bangash Polo Team

The action continues on the fields of Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club as it saw AM Polo play against Bangash Polo on the third day of the Polo Masters Cup 2019. AM Polo had the lead up to half time with Maxi Malacalza scoring 3 goals for the team. The last 2 chukkers had Bangash placing goals to close in on AM Polo. The afternoon concluded in a tight end with 9 goals to 8.5 in favour of AM Polo team.

Mahra Polo Team Wins on the Second Day of the Polo Masters Cup 2019


The second day of the Polo Masters Cup had seen Dubai Wolves / DCC up against Mahra Polo team. Dubai Wolves / DCC had an early lead on the first chukker which was taken over by Mahra by the end of the second, with three goals delivered by Diogo Gallego. From this point, the match was a close one ending in a tie by the end of the fourth chukker. Pelayo Berazadi scored the winning goal and took home the win for Mahra Polo team.

Polo Masters Cup 2019 Kicks Off

Bin Drai Polo and UAE Polo teams had a successful afternoon on the first day of the Polo Masters Cup 2019.

 
Bangash had an early lead against Bin Drai as they closed the first chukker with 4.5 goals to 2. Bin Drai team on their tail, took the lead by half time with goals from Andres "Lala" Laplacette. The team managed to keep their advantage until the buzzer sounded off on the fourth chukker ending the game at 11 - 9.5

The Julius Baer Gold Cup Live Draw Kicks Off its 2019 Tournament

The Dubai Open celebrates its tenth anniversary as the region’s largest polo tournament

The Julius Baer Gold Cup, the region’s largest polo tournament, returns for another year under the Patronage of HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai. The live draw for the Julius Baer Gold Cup 2019 fixture was held on 10 February 2019 at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club, the home ground of the Dubai Polo Gold Cup (DPGC) Series.

The Gold Cup (Dubai Open) now in its tenth year, is one of the five mid to high-goal tournaments that fall under the umbrella of the DPGC Series. It has grown in parallel with the city of Dubai and is the only tournament in the United Arab Emirates (along with the Dubai Challenge Cup and the Dubai Silver Cup, also part of the DPGC Series) to be certified by the World Polo Tour (WPT) since 2012. The Gold Cup is part of the WPT Championship Cup which is considered as the highest competition in terms of points and awards 80 points to its winners, 40 points to the finalists, 25 points to the semi-finalists and 10 points to all other participating players. Only four other tournaments in the
worldare competed in this category under the WPT. The Dubai Open is played under the banner of the Hurlingham Polo Association (HPA) with tournaments being played under strict international supervision according to the HPA rules and provision of its umpires.
 
The tournament has received tremendous support from its title sponsor since 2014 - Julius Baer, a leading Swiss private banking group withpresence in all major financial centres including Dubai, Frankfurt, Geneva, Hong Kong, London, Luxembourg, Milan, Monaco, Montevideo, Moscow, Mumbai, Singapore and Tokyo. The Julius Baer Gold Cup 2019 will officially kick off on Monday 18 February 2019 with eight teams competing until Friday 8 March for the prestigious title and trophy.

UAE Polo Team Wins the Silver Cup 2019

08 February 2019, Dubai UAE: It was an excellent day for polo fans at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club during the Silver Cup Final 2019. Attended by His Highness Sheikh Rashid bin Hamdan Al Maktoum, spectators were treated to a brilliant display of the Sport of Kings as Mahra Polo played against Zedan Polo for the Hildon Cup and the UAE Polo competed with Ghantoot Polo for the Silver Cup title and trophy.
 
The first match had Zedan Polo team take on an early advantage with a 2.5 goal lead. The team kept their position all the way through to the fourth chukker with Amr Zedan, the team's patron, contributing 4 goals. Mahra was able to take the lead with a goal delivered by Pelayo Berazadi which resulted in a score of 8.5 - 8. Both teams dashed to score their winning goal and it was Rauli Laplacette who brought home the victory for Zedan closing the game at 9 goals to 8.5.

Guests of the Final enjoyed watching from the sidelines under gazeboes while the little ones got on free pony rides and played in the kids area. Prizes with a total value of AED 10,500 were given away to fortunate guests at the Run - N- Hunt game and the picnic area was in full swing with vendors serving delicious treats.
 
The Final of the Silver Cup 2019 was intense, fast-paced, with equally strong teams and well-mounted horses. The first chukker had seen the teams in a tie at 2 – 2 and UAE polo had the lead at the end of the second chukker. Ghantoot brought in a consecutive goals and took the game in their favour with 7 goals to 5 by half time. As the fourth chukker rolled, Tomas Panelo from UAE Polo team scored 2 goals only to be matched by Ghantoot which kept them in the lead. The crowd cheered as Sheikha Maitha bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the team's patron, closed in on Ghantoot with a goal followed by another one from Alejandro Muzzio which had the teams tied at 9 goals each. With three minutes left on the clock, both teams raced to break the tie and ultimately, Muzzio scored the winning goal for the UAE Polo team.

His Highness Sheikh Rashid bin Hamdan Al Maktoum awarded the winners of the Silver Cup 2019 with Zedan Polo team as the winner of the Hildon Cup 2019 (subsidiary final) and UAE Polo team as the champion of the Silver Cup. Martin Donovan was given the Most Valuable Player award and Ariel as the Best Playing Pony.

Ghantoot and UAE Polo Teams to Play at the Silver Cup Final 2019

The anticipation builds as the season approaches the Silver Cup Final 2019. The semifinals on the 05th of February saw two exciting matches at the grounds of Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club.

The afternoon opened with a game between Ghantoot Polo and Desert Palm Polo teams which took off with a quick lead for Ghantoot and ended the first chukker with 6 goals to 1.  The team maintained its significant lead against Desert Palm through to half time at a 6 goal advantage. Efforts by the Castagnola brothers brought the scores in for Desert Palm, however, the excellent delivery of goals from Juan Gris Zavaleta kept Ghantoot ahead and bagged the win at 15 goals to 9.

Ghantoot – 6 - 1 | 7 - 3 | 10 - 4 | 11 - 7 | 15 - 9

An exciting game ensued with a face-off between two strong contenders of the Silver Cup – Habtoor Polo and UAE Polo. Both teams demonstrated a strong play and edged each other to a tie at 3 – 3 by the end of the second chukker. Tomas Panelo broke the tie from UAE Polo by the third chukker. The team kept the momentum and brought in 4 more goals by the fifth chukker both from Panelo and Alejandro Muzzio which closed the game with a score of 9 to 4 in favour of the UAE Polo team.

The Silver Cup, an 18-goal handicap tournament will conclude on the 08th of February 2019. Mahra Polo and Zedan Polo teams will compete in the Hildon Cup Subsidiary Final at 13:30 and Ghantoot Polo will play against UAE Polo in the Silver Cup Final at 16:00.

Mahra and Zedan Polo Teams Will Compete at the Hildon Cup Final 2019

It was an action-packed Monday as the Subsidiary semifinals saw four teams compete at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club. Abu Dhabi Polo played against Mahra Polo and Zedan Polo against Dubai Wolves
 
The first game between Abu Dhabi and Mahra Polo teams started as close one and proceeded at a 3 goal advantage for Mahra all the way to half with goals delivered equally by Diogo Gallego and Pelayo Berazadi. The goals scored by the Abu Dhabi Polo team during the last two chukkers of the game were not enough to close in on the other team and resulted to a final score of 11.5 – 8 in favour of Mahra.

Mahra Polo team – 2.5 - 3 | 6.5 - 3 | 8.5 - 5 | 10.5-6 | 11.5 - 8

The second match progressed in a one-sided affair as Zedan Polo competed against Dubai Wolves. By the third chukker, Zedan had taken a significant lead at 6 goals to 1 with Dubai Wolves missing a few chances to score. At the fifth chukker, Dubai Wolves’ Marcos “Cacu’ Araya had scored 3 goals for the team but wasn’t enough to gain an advantage to which the last chukker ended at 9 goals for Zedan and with 6 for Dubai Wolves.

UAE Polo Team Makes it to the Semifinals of the Silver Cup 2019

It was another Friday of excellent of polo at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club with games between four teams - Ghantoot Polo against UAE and Abu Dhabi Polo played against Dubai Wolves.
 
Ghantoot played fast and secured a 2-goal advantage at the end of the first chukker, having 4 goals to 2 with Juan Gris Zavaleta scoring 3 goals for the team. Ghantoot kept their advantage until the end of the second chukker. The UAE Polo team was able to take the lead by the third chukker with the goals delivered by Alejandro Muzzio and Tomas Panelo. The last two chukkers saw the teams neck and neck with goals flying in succession. The end of the fourth chukker saw UAE Polo team with a 1-goal lead from the team’s patron – Sheikha Maitha bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The match concluded with a score of at 10 – 9 in favour of UAE Polo team.

Dubai Wolves saw themselves up against another strong contender of the Silver Cup 2019. The Abu Dhabi Polo took the lead from the young team all the way up to half time. The Dubai Wolves kicked it up with a series of goals during the last two chukkers from Manuel Crespo and the team’s patron, Habtoor Al Habtoor. However, the lead created by Abu Dhabi polo team at the onset of the match was enough to place the game on their favour in the end with 13 goals to 8.

The Silver Cup, an 18-goal handicap tournament will continue with the Subsidiary Semi Finals on 04th of February 2019, Monday Abu Dhabi Polo vs. Mahra Polo team at 14:00 and Zedan Polo against Dubai Wolves 16:00 at 16:00 in Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club.

Successful Day for Zedan and Desert Palm Polo Teams on the Fifth Day of the Silver Cup 2019

Both Zedan Polo and Desert Palm Polo teams had a successful day as they won against Mahra and Habtoor Polo teams respectively.
 
Zedan got off to a flying start with 4 goals in the first chukka from Raul “Lala” Laplacette and they kept the momentum up to half time where they went into the break at 7- 2. Laplacette with 6 goals to his name in the first half and Diogo Gallego and Pelayo Berazadi having one each for Mahra Polo team. The second half of the match saw Zedan stretch their advantage to 9-4 with goals from Laborde and Martin “Gato” Gandara. The 2 goals from Tariq Al Habtoor and Pelayo weren’t enough to get Mahra back into the game in this one-sided situation.

Zedan - 4-0 | 6-1 | 7-2 | 9-2 | 9-4
 

The second match did not disappoint with a flurry of goals at the start of the game. Facundo Sola scored 4 goals and Hugo Lewis had 1 sending Habtoor Polo team into an early lead – 5 goals to 2. It wasn’t until the 3rd chukker when there were more goals from Desert Palm which came from Camillo “Jeta” Castagnola who scored 4 goals before the half time buzzer and ending the third chukker at 6 - 5. The tournaments leading goal scorer added 3 more in the second half and Desert Palm took the win at 10 goals to 7. Their results see both teams into the semis next week.

Ghantoot Polo and UAE Polo Teams Qualify for the Semifinals of the Silver Cup 2019

01/29/2019, DUBAI, UAE - The Silver Cup 2019 continues on its fourth day saw Abu Dhabi Polo play against Ghantoot Polo team in the first match and Dubai Wolves against UAE Polo in the second match.
 
Abu Dhabi started the game slowly with Ghantoot racing to an early lead with a fantastic solo performance from Martin Donovan assisted well all over the field by Cesar Crespo and Juan Gris Zavaleta. Abu Dhabi slowly clawed their way back into the game with some amazingly struck penalties by Alfredo Capella. Towards the end of the last chukker, Abu Dhabi team got within 1 goal of Ghantoot and Capella had a chance to tie it up before narrowly putting the ball wide. Ghantoot raced to the other end and hit the post with a frantic final minute as they held on to win and booked their place in the semi-finals.

Ghantoot: 2-1 | 5-2 | 7-4  |9 - 8 | 11-10
 
The second match had Dubai Wolves up for a tough game against one of the strongest teams to play this season - UAE Polo team. The first chukka confirmed this as UAE raced to a 4-0 lead with quick goals from Tomas Panelo and Alejandro Muzzio. The first goal of the game for Dubai Wolves eventually came off the stick of Marcos “Cacu” Araya despite an attempt to stop it from Muzzio. Goals from Panelo and Matias Benoit along with top scoring delivered by Muzzio extended the lead to 10 - 2. A flurry of late goals from Cacu and Manuel Crespo left finished the game with 11 goals to 5 in favor of UAE Polo team. The UAE Polo team will play Ghantoot in their final game with both teams through to the semifinals.

UAE: 4-0 | 6-0 | 8-1 | 10 - 3 | 11 - 5
 
The Silver Cup, an 18-goal handicap tournament will continue on 31st January 2019, Monday with Desert Palm Polo playing against Habtoor Polo at 14:00 and Mahra Polo against Zedan Polo at 16:00 in Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club.
 
About the Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series
 
The Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series held in the UAE, is one of only five tournaments in the world played in the WPT Championship Cup category, on a par with world-class events held in Argentina, Spain, United Kingdom and the United States. It was founded by its Chairman Mohammed Al Habtoor in 2009. The Silver Cup and the Dubai Challenge Cup falls under the World Polo Tour (WPT) Challenge Cup Category awarding the winners of the Silver Cup with 50 points, the finalists with 25, semi-finalists with 10 and the rest of the players with 5 points; and Dubai Challenge Cup winners with 20 points. The Gold Cup is under the WPT Championship Cup – the highest competition in terms of points, awarding its winners with 80 points.
