UAE Polo Team Proudly Lifted the Standard Chartered Gold Cup 2020 Trophy



06 March 2020, Dubai, UAE: The Dubai Open 2020 declared its two-time champion - UAE Polo team - lead by its patron Sheikha Maitha bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The final day of the Standard Chartered Gold Cup 2020 was filled with polo action, live entertainment, grand prizes and fun for all the spectators. 

The first match of the afternoon was between Abu Dhabi Polo and Habtoor Polo teams at the Bentley Cup. The game was neck and neck game as both teams played equally strong. Abu Dhabi had taken the lead in the first chukker and levelled out the score at the end of the second.  Mohammed Al Habtoor, the patron of the Habtoor Polo, stole the ball from Alfredo Cappella and took the lead for the team.

The succeeding minutes saw one goal after the other, and both teams were tied close to halftime until Martin Podesta closed the chukker with a lead for Habtoor Polo. The fourth chukker Facundo Sola created a three-goal advantage for Habtoor Polo. By mid of the final chukker, Martin Podesta scored the 11th goal for the team which Abu Dhabi Polo was not able to catch up on throughout the fifth chukker. The Bentley Cup ended with a final score of 11 - 7 in favour of Habtoor Polo.

The festivities for the guests included cheerleader and acrobatic shows, a fashion show by Walid Atallah, and the Dubai Police Marching Band performed the UAE National Anthem before the Standard Chartered Gold Cup final. Ali Hammad, Market Head, Private Banking, MENA threw the ball to open the game. 


The final featured the 2019 Dubai Open champion - UAE Polo team up against AM - UAE Polo, a team that made its debut to high-goal polo this season. AM - UAE Polo had a strong start that continued through to the end of the second chukker. The Panelo brothers took the lead for the first time during the third chukker but, Ignacio Acuña scored a last-second goal that settled the game at 5 goals. The penultimate chukker continued to be a close game with three quick back to back goals that kicked up UAE Polo's lead. The determining chukker saw UAE Polo team successfully defend its position and secured the win at 10 goals to 8.

UAE Polo and AM-UAE Polo Teams Inch Their Way Closer to Claimingthe Standard Chartered Gold Cup 2020



03/03/2020: DUBAI, UAE: The Dubai Open 2020 Semifinals had given polo fans an exciting afternoon with two matches, AM - UAE Polo against Ghatoot Polo team and UAE Polo versus Zedan Polo team. The first match started with a neck shot from Santiago Cernadas of AM - UAE Polo team. Marcos Araya matched with two goals placing Ghantoot Polo ahead which they kept until the end of the second chukker. AM - UAE Polo scored five goals in a row delivered by Jacinto Crotto and Cernadas that created a five-goal advantage. The tenacity of the teams continued during the last two chukkers - AM - UAE Polo maintaining their lead and Ghantoot Polo trying to score in goals to cut the gap in scores. The last goals from Ali Al Merri and Pablo Llorente during the last chukker were not enough to beat AM - UAE Polo team as they closed the game at 11 goals to 8.

Santiago Laborde opened the next match for Zedan Polo Team and took the lead until the third chukker having two goals from its patron - Amr Zedan. The teams kept outscoring each other, but Zedan Polo team held on to their two-goal advantage until the end of the fourth chukker. UAE Polo team made an excellent comeback from being behind its opponent during the last two chukkers with three goals from Tommy Beresford which resulted in a tie at the end of the buzzer. Santi missed the chance to take the win for Zedan Polo with a penalty shot at the start of the sixth chukker. Both teams raced to score the golden goal and it Tomas Panelo who successfully tapped the ball into the goal and sealed the win for UAE Polo team, 9 goals to 8.

Habtoor Polo and Abu Dhabi Polo Teams Will Go Head to Head at the Bentley Cup 2020

02/03/2020: DUBAI, UAE: It was a double-action day at the Bentley Semifinals of the Standard Chartered Gold Cup 2020 tournament. Four teams competed at the grounds of Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club that resulted to a win for Habtoor Polo and Abu Dhabi Polo teams.
 
Habtoor Polo demonstrated a strong start until halftime while maintaining a two-goal advantage. Bangash Polo was able to close in on Habtoor by the end of the fourth chukker with goals from its patron - Haider Bangash and Frederico Potobsky created a tie early on the final chukker. Habtoor Polo matched this with two goals, and Facundo Sola's 10th goal sealed the for Habtoor Polo team.

The second match opened with a goal from Juan Zubiaurre that was followed by a score from Habtoor Al Habtoor, patron of the Dubai Wolves team. The next chukker saw the Wolves took off and secured a three-goal advantage over Abu Dhabi Polo team. The match took an exciting turn when Martin Donovan delivered three goals in the next two chukkers. Alfredo Cappella started the last chukker with a goal. Juan Gris Zavaleta took the lead with a penalty shot, but Cesar Crespo levelled the game. Tied at 8 goals, both teams raced to gain the lead that resulted in a sixth chukker. The strike for the golden goal was taken by Cappella within the first 10 seconds, and Abu Dhabi Polo claimed victory at 9 goals to 8.

Zedan Polo Emerged Victorious at the Dubai Open 2020 Quarterfinals



29/2/2020: DUBAI, UAE: It was a battle for the last spot at the semifinals of the Standard Chartered Gold Cup 2020. The last match of the quarterfinal was between Zedan Polo and Abu Dhabi Polo teams.
 
Both teams struggled to score the first goal until a penalty was called. Santiago Laborde scored for Zedan Polo team followed by a goal from Amr Zedan that ended the first chukker at 2 goals. Alfredo Cappella opened the next chukker with a goal but was matched by an excellent strike from Santi and the last goal from Juan Juaretche, which gave Zedan Polo a three-goal advantage over Abu Dhabi. The third chukker was a race with a flurry of goals and Zedan managed to keep the lead by halftime.
 
The pressure was on for Abu Dhabi during the last two chukkers as Zedan Polo team kept up a great defense. Cappella took the fifth chukker with two goals and threatened for a sixth until a spot penalty was called in favour of Zedan Polo. Amr Zedan sealed the win for the team with a goal at 9 goals to 7.

AM - UAE Polo Team Advances to the Semifinals of the Standard Chartered Gold Cup 2020



28/2/2020: DUBAI, UAE: The first game of the Dubai Open 2020 quarterfinals was a match between Habtoor Polo and AM - UAE Polo teams with the first goal from Facundo Sola.
 
Habtoor Polo had the lead at the first two chukkers. The third chukker, AM - UAE Polo quickly grabbed the lead with consecutive goals from Santiago Cernadas and a great steal from Martin Podesta by from Ignacio Acuña that resulted to another goal. The penultimate chukker opened with a two-goal advantage for AM - UAE Polo and additional goal from a penalty shot by Santi. Facu closed in on AM - UAE with two goals closing the chukker at 6 goals to 5. The determining chukker saw AM – UAE Polo defend its lead and a window of opportunity for Habtoor Polo to set a tied match but was missed. The last minute and half was enough to allow Santi score two penalty goals for the team and the game ended with a final score of 8 goals to 5 in favour of AM - UAE Polo.

Line Up is Set for the Quarterfinals of the Standard Chartered Gold Cup 2020


 

25/2/2020: DUBAI, UAE: The sixth day of the Dubai Open 2020 declared the teams that will be playing for the quarter-finals on Friday, 28th February at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club.
 
The afternoon started with a penalty shootout which earned Abu Dhabi Polo and AM -  UAE Polo teams their spot at the quarter-finals and Ghantoot Polo, a spot at the semi-finals.
 
The match that followed was between Zedan Polo and Bangash Polo teams. Zedan had the lead until halftime with a four-goal advantage. Bangash Polo made a huge comeback during the last two chukkers with impressive goals from Frederico Potobsky that closed in on Zedan. However, Juan Juaretche scored a goal that secured the win for Zedan Polo at 8 goals to 7 and a spot at the quarter-finals against Abu Dhabi Polo team.

It was a tight game between UAE Polo and Habtoor Polo Teams on the second half of the afternoon with an opening goal from Martin Podesta. Habtoor had the lead until the end of the third chukker. Tommy Beresford redeemed the UAE Polo team and delivered three goals that gave them a one-goal advantage by the end of the fourth chukker. The last chukker saw both teams relentless to win the match as both were tied at 12 goals almost at the end of the chukker. Spectators expected a sudden death round but, a penalty was issued in favour of UAE Polo which earned them a spot at the semi-finals. The game ended with a final score of 13 goals to 12 and Habtoor Polo will play at quarter-finals.

Big Wins for Abu Dhabi and Ghantoot Polo Teams on the Fifth Day of the Dubai Open 2020



24/2/2020: DUBAI, UAE: The excitement builds as Abu Dhabi and Ghantoot Polo teams scored their second win at the Standard Chartered Gold Cup 2020 tournament.
 
The first match between Dubai Wolves and Abu Dhabi Polo teams opened with a goal from Juan Gris Zavaleta for the Wolves. Abu Dhabi took off at the second chukker with Alfredo Cappella striking three goals for the team and a goal from its patron, Faris Al Yabhouni. Dubai Wolves struggled to gain position during the next chukkers as Abu Dhabi polo continued with goals from Capella and Martin Donovan. The match ended with a final score of 12 goals to 9 in favour of Abu Dhabi Polo Team.

Another Win for Habtoor Polo and UAE Polo Teams at the Standard Chartered Gold Cup 2020


22/2/2020: DUBAI, UAE: The fourth day of Dubai Open 2020 qualifiers saw Habtoor Polo, Bangash Polo, UAE Polo and Zedan Polo teams battle it out on the grounds of Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club.
 
Bangash took the lead by the end of the first chukker with goals from Manuel Elizalde and Frederico Potobsky. Habtoor Polo made a huge leap as Facundo Sola scored four goals for the team which earned them a one-goal advantage. The third chukker saw Habtoor Polo widen the score gap as they added three goals. Post halftime, both teams scored a goal with an excellent steal by Facu and delivered to goal by Martin Podesta. The last chukker rolled with a good start for Bangash Polo with a goal from Elizalde and two more close to the end of the game. Esain's backhand assist to Facu plus a last-second goal secured the win for Habtoor Polo at 10 goals to 7.

AM – UAE Polo and Ghantoot Polo Teams Conquered the Third Day of the Dubai Open 2020 Qualifiers

21/2/2020: DUBAI, UAE:The third day of the Standard Chartered Gold Cup started with a ceremonial ball toss to celebrates the 150th anniversary of Polo in the modern era and the formation of rules that have evolved to form the game of today.
 
AM - UAE scored the first goal of the match, and the game took on an exciting start as Abu Dhabi polo team matched this with three consecutive goals taking the lead in their favour. The second chukker opened with a goal from Faris Al Yabhouni, patron of Abu Dhabi Polo team and Jacinto Crotto and Santiago Cernadas levelled the game by the sound of the buzzer. Abu Dhabi had regained their lead by mid of the 3rd chukker but AM - UAE was relentless, and both teams were tied by halftime. The penultimate chukker continued with the same intensity and ended with one-goal advantage for Abu Dhabi. The last chukker started with a penalty shot from Santiago Cernadas, and both teams played hard for the win. It was the last goal from Ignacio Acuña that bagged the win for AM - UAE Polo with a final score of 9 goals to 8.

Habtoor Polo & UAE Polo Teams Successful on the Second Day of the Dubai Open 2020



19/2/2020: DUBAI, UAE: It was a double-action day at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club as Habtoor Polo played against Zedan Polo with a final score of 12 - 8 and UAE Polo won with 12 goals against Bangash Polo team.

Habtoor Polo secured a fast lead and ended the first chukker with a three-goal advantage. Zedan Polo recovered during the second game with two goals from its Patron, Amr Zedan. Facundo Sola managed to break the tie with an angle shot at 70 yards out early on the third chukker which Santiago Laborde quickly recovered with a goal. Habtoor Polo's lead took off with the three goals from Facu and the two goals scored by Martin Podesta sealed the win for the team at 12 goals to 8.
