Successful Day for AM and UAE Polo Teams at the Dubai Challenge Cup 2019 Qualifiers

It was a double action day at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club as AM Polo team won their match against Dubai Wolves with a final score of 6 - 4 and UAE Polo defeated Shansal/PBS with 7 goals to 4.5.

Shanshal/PBS had a one and half goal advantage and the team took the lead from the first chukker against the Dubai Wolves until halftime. Marcos Araya delivered goals which took the match into a close fight towards the end of the penultimate chukker. The last seven minutes ensued with goals coming in from bought sides and Shanshal / PBS on the lead only to be beaten by the last goal from Justo Cuitino. The match ended with a final score of 9 goals to 8.5 in favour of the Dubai Wolves.

AM Polo team: 2 -1 | 4 - 2 | 5 - 4 | 6 - 4

The second game gave way for an early lead to Shansal/PBS with one and a half goal which UAE Polo had matched with a goal by the end of the first chukker. By halftime, the game closed in with 3.5 goals to 3 in favour of Shansal/PBS. The last two chukkers cleared the win for UAE Polo as the team scored a total of four goals more, two of which were delivered by Sheikha Maitha bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the team's patron.

Dubai Challenge Cup 2019 Continues with a Win for UAE Polo Team

AM Polo team competed against UAE Polo on the second day of the Dubai Challenge Cup 2019 at Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club.

UAE Polo had taken the lead on this match from start to finish as the first chukker had seen Sheikha Maitha Bint Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the team’s patron and Benjamin Panelo score initial goals for the team. The following chukker earned the team a two goal advantage delivered by Panelo. Not missing a beat, AM Polo’s patron – Sheikha Alya Al Maktoum and Guillermo Cuitino successfully closed in on its opponent and by the third chukker with 4 goals to 5 only to be out-scored by UAE Polo team on the last chukker. The game closed with a final score of 7 goals to 5 in favour of the UAE Polo team.

Dubai Wolves Wins on the Opening Day of the Dubai Challenge Cup 2019

The fourth tournament of the Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series officially opened with a victory for Dubai Wolves against Shansal/PBS and a final score of 9 goals to 8.5.
 
Shanshal/PBS had a one and half goal advantage and the team took the lead from the first chukker against the Dubai Wolves until halftime. Marcos Araya delivered goals which took the match into a close fight towards the end of the penultimate chukker. UAE Polo Team Proudly Claims the Julius Baer Gold Cup 2019

The undefeated streak of the UAE Polo team continues as they proudly lifted the trophy as this year's Julius Baer Gold Cup champions.
 
The Final delivered excellent polo matches and great entertainment that did not disappoint the spectators and fans at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club.  A flag presentation by the Al Habtoor Riding School marked the start of the afternoon followed by the Bentley Subsidiary Final with Dubai Wolves competed against Zedan Polo team. The Wolves came in strong with the lead on the first chukker which Zedan matched with goals on the second that led to a tie at 3 - 3. Zedan charged further and stretched this gap with subsequent goals from Santiago Laborde and Raul Laplacette. Manuel Crespo and Yousef Bin Desmal from Dubai Wolves evened out the advantage by the end of the fourth chukker. The last one had seen the teams in a tight game, each striving to take home the win. Zedan closed the match with a one-goal lead and claimed the Bentley Cup 2019 title and trophy.

Prior to the highly anticipated face-off between Habtoor Polo and UAE Polo teams, the crowd was treated to a performance by the Dubai Police Marching band followed by the UAE National Anthem. A display of fine Bentley Cars accompanied the teams for their presentation. The first chukker showed an even performance from both teams which ended at 3 - 2 in favour of UAE Polo. The team kept increasing its goal advantage with a series of goals until halftime notably from Tomas Panelo. The Habtoor team came back with three goals from Facundo Sola and Tommy Beresford to close in the score and settled the fourth chukker at 9 - 6. Facu managed to deliver two more goals at the last chukker but was not enough to outscore its opponent. The Final declared UAE Polo team as its victors with a score of 10 - 8.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Maktoum bin Rashid al Maktoum graced the afternoon and awarded the winners of the Julius Baer Gold Cup 2019. Trevor Weller, Director - Prestige Division of Bentley Emirates joined him on the stage to award the Bentley Cup runner up - Dubai Wolves and the winners - Zedan Polo Team. For the final awardees, Régis Burger, Head Middle East of Julius Baer (Middle East) Ltd., joined the stage to give the awards to the runner up of the Julius Baer Gold Cup 2019 final - Habtoor Polo - and the champions - UAE Polo Team. Alejandro Muzzio was awarded the Most Valuable Player and Milly, the horse he rode, was named the Best Playing Pony.

Habtoor Polo and UAE Polo - Contenders for the Julius Baer Gold Cup 2019 Trophy

The Semifinals of the Dubai Open 2019 comes to an exciting end as UAE Polo faced Desert Palm on the first match and Habtoor Polo competed against Abu Dhabi Polo team.
 
The first match saw both UAE Polo and Desert Palm Polo teams neck and neck all the way up to the third chukker closing it in at 6 goals to 5 in favour of UAE Polo. At the fourth chukker, UAE Polo created three-goal advantage as they scored four goals from Alejandro Muzzio, some penalty shots and a last second goal by Matias Benoit which ended the chukker at 10 goals to 7. Desert Palm’s Bart Castagnola was able to score a goal at the last chukker but was offset by a goal from Alejandro Muzzio, 20 seconds short of the final buzzer. The match concluded with a final score of 11 - 8 in favor of UAE Polo.

Spectators who came to see the last match of the semifinals were not disappointed as the competing teams delivered an intense match. The first chukker had seen Mohammed Al Habtoor, patron of Habtoor Polo, score the first goal from the first line out and the team proceeded to hold the lead until the end of the second chukker at 6 goals to 3. Facundo Sola and Alfredo Cappella traded in penalties for either side throughout and locked the fourth chukker at 10 goals to 9 with Habtoor Polo still on the lead. At the last chukker, Alfredo Cappella's goal for the Abu Dhabi Polo team created a tie which was broken by Hugo Lewis placing the lead back to Habtoor Polo. The team held on until the end and took the win with a one-goal lead, 11 goals to 10.

Dubai Wolves and Zedan Polo Teams Set to Compete at the Subsidiary Final of the Dubai Open 2019

The Julius Baer Gold Cup 2019 had seen exciting wins during the Subsidiary Semi-Final. The first subsidiary semi-final match between Ghantoot and Dubai Wolves was a close encounter from start to finish. Marcos Araya and Manuel Crespo combined brilliantly in the first 2 chukkas to get some early goals on the board for the Wolves. Goals from Ghantoot’s, Juan Gris Zavaleta and Martin Donovan left the scores even at half time. In the second half the game really opened up and Raja Abuljabain scored an amazing goal and helped the Wolves secure their first win in the Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series with a final score of 10 goals to 9.

The match between Zedan and Mahra was a highly anticipated one. The game was a close one from start and the scores at half time were locked at 3-3. Pelayo Berazadi had an amazing end to end run to goal with what may have been the goal of the tournament. Rauli Laplacette kept his team in the game with some penalties in the first half from 30 and 60 yards. The second half started with a 60 yard hit by Santiago Laborde, this and a field goal from Martin “Gato” Gandara helped them gain a one-goal advantage heading into the 5th chukker at 5 - 4. The 2 quick goals from Gato and Laborde in the last chukker gave Zedan a three-goal advantage. A 30-yard penalty from Berazadi couldn’t help them get back on track as Laborde scored again and helped Zedan secure a place in the Subsidiary Final with 8 goals to 5. Zedan will play against Dubai Wolves at the Bentley Cup Final on Friday, 8th March.

Abu Dhabi and Desert Palm Polo Teams – Quarterfinal Winners of the Dubai Open 2019

The games continued at the Quarter Finals of the Julius Baer Gold Cup 2019 at Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club. Abu Dhabi Polo won its match against Zedan Polo with a single goal lead, and Desert Palm claimed triumph over Ghantoot Polo team on the second match.
 
Abu Dhabi Polo team broke into a fast lead in the first match with goals from Santiago Gomez Romero and Alfredo Cappella. Zedan Polo team, not missing a beat, closed in on the opponent with subsequent goals from Raul Laplacette and was on the lead by halftime. The last two chukkers had the teams in a tight match as Abu Dhabi drove the lead back on their side and ultimately closed the game with a last-second goal from Guy Gibrat at 9 goals to 8.

The second match had seen Desert Palm Polo team demonstrate a strong start with consistent performance throughout the game. The team had a huge lead by the end of the third chukker with 7 goals to 1. Desert Palm delivered additional goals at the fourth chukker, further defining the team's advantage. In spite of the successive goals from Ghantoot’s players during the last chukker, the end of the fourth chukker was enough to seal the win for Desert Palm, and the match ended with a final score of 11 to 6.

Habtoor Polo Makes it to the Semifinals of the Julius Baer Gold Cup 2019

The last day of the qualification matches of the Dubai Open 2019 concluded with an exciting match between Habtoor Polo and Ghantoot Polo teams and with a final score of 11 goals to 7.
 
The afternoon opened with a match between Zedan Polo and Dubai Wolves Polo teams. Zedan had the lead on its opponent from the start of the game, and it was one-sided until the end of the fifth chukker at 10 goals to 3.

Habtoor Polo took control of the second game with a flurry of goals from Facundo Sola during the second chukker. This gave the team a 4 goal advantage by halftime with Ghantoot barely catching up through the end of the fourth chukker with 10 goals to 4. Ghantoot was not able to recover from the significant lead Habtoor had over them in spite of the successive goals from Ali Al Mheiri and Juan Gris Zavaleta and the match ended at 11 goals to 7 with Habtoor Polo securing their slot at the semifinals.

Another Win for Abu Dhabi Polo and UAE Polo Teams at the Dubai Open 2019 Qualifiers

Four teams faced each other at the Julius Baer Gold Cup 2019 qualifiers held at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club. Abu Dhabi Polo team won their match against Mahra Polo with 10 goals to 8 and the next game saw UAE Polo beat Desert Palm Polo team with a last second goal which settled in a final score of 10 – 9.
 
Abu Dhabi Polo Team had an early lead with 2 goals from the team's patron - Faris Al Yabhouni and Guy Gibrat. Mahra on their tail closed the second chukker in a tie, 2-2. The string of goals that Alfredo Cappella had scored for the team until the end of the fourth chukker had given the Abu Dhabi Polo team a 4-goal advantage. The last chukker saw Mahra close in on its opponent with individual goals from its three of its players. In spite of Mahra's efforts, Abu Dhabi was still in the lead with a goal and Pelayo Berazadi sealed off the win with the last goal ending the match at 10 goals to 8 in favour of Abu Dhabi.

An exciting match ensued between UAE Polo and Desert Palm Polo teams. With a series of goals from both sides, the game reached halftime with a score of 5 - 4 in favour of the UAE Polo team. Rufino Bensadon and Bart Castagnola delivered goals which took the lead for Mahra by the end of the fourth chukker. The intensity of the match increased as the fifth chukker rolled in with both teams trying to take the lead from each other. With a few seconds left on the clock, Tomas Panelo bagged the win for UAE Polo, ended the match at 10 goals to 9 and secured a spot for the team in the semifinals.

The qualification matches of the Dubai Open 2019 continued this Saturday at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club.

The first match had seen Dubai Wolves in an early lead against Habtoor Polo, 2 - 1. Individual goals during the next chukker from Hugo Lewis, Facundo Sola and Tommy Beresford had quickly moved the advantage to the Habtoor team. Early on the third chukker, Mohammed Al Habtoor, patron of the team, delivered a solid goal in spite of the attempt to block the shot by Raja Abuljabain. Goals were scored equally until the penultimate chukker that allowed Habtoor to keep its two-goal advantage. As the last chukker rolled, Facu and Hugo had a goal each which ultimately declared Habtoor Polo as the winner with 9 goals to 5.

The Julius Baer Gold Cup, an 18-goal handicap tournament continues with its qualifiers on 25 February 2019 at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club. Mahra will play against Abu Dhabi Polo at 14:00 and Ghantoot Polo vs. Habtoor Polo at 16:00.

The Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series held in the UAE is one of only five tournaments in the world played in the WPT Championship Cup category, on a par with world-class events held in Argentina, Spain, United Kingdom and the United States. It was founded by its Chairman Mohammed Al Habtoor in 2009. The Silver Cup and the Dubai Challenge Cup falls under the World Polo Tour (WPT) Challenge Cup Category awarding the winners of the Silver Cup with 50 points, the finalists with 25, semi-finalists with 10 and the rest of the players with 5 points; and Dubai Challenge Cup winners with 20 points. The Gold Cup is under the WPT Championship Cup – the highest competition in terms of points, awarding its winners with 80 points.
